Hidden Histories: Ireland's Tenement Housing Collapse

Sixty years ago this month, the eyes of the world were on Ireland - as an American President arrived. But at home, the pressing political issue of the day was a worsening housing crisis. June 1963 witnessed the collapse of several tenement houses across Dublin, with the loss of four lives, and led to a frantic panic which witnessed dozens of Georgian houses pulled down in the weeks that followed. It all led to the capitals first and only attempt at significant high-rise living. To discuss this Gavin was joined by Historian Donal Fallon.
