Professor Gordon Hamilton Fairley was the UK’s first professor of medical oncology but that career, and life, was cut short on the 23rd October 1975 when an IRA bomb exploded under his neighbour’s car. So what did the medical world lose on that day when cancer research and treatment lost one of its pioneers?
