A row has erupted in Cork City over council proposals to build traveller accommodation in the Northside of the city.

Cork City Council proposes to build houses for Travellers at an area called Ellis’s Yard. This is a vacant site that lies adjacent to Spring Lane; a halting site were over two-hundred travellers currently reside.

Now the traveller accommodation plans have been met with strong objections by some locals who live in the nearby Ballyvolane estate.

The locals claim that they regularly witness anti-social behaviour, illegal dumping and fires, animal cruelty and are intimidated in their own homes.
