Frontline gardaí could be given medication to reverse heroin and methadone overdoses, cutting user deaths, under measures being examined by Garda HQ.

Naloxone is used to counter overdoses from opiate drugs, such as heroin, morphine and methadone. And it is recommended by the World Health Organisation for the treatment of opioid overdose cases. Within minutes, it reverses the effects of overdose.
