This week, the World Meteorological Organisation has warned that a potentially exceptional El Niño is firmly established in the Pacific and is expected to strengthen significantly, increasing the risks of extreme heat, flooding, and drought around the world. While El Niño is a natural phenomenon, it is arriving on a much warmer planet, so, what should we expect and does a warming climate mean that naturally occurring weather events like this are becoming increasingly dangerous? Joining Pat to discuss is Peter Thorne, Director of the ICARUS Climate Research Centre at Maynooth University.
