US President Donald Trump's sudden decision to pause most of the hefty duties he had just imposed on dozens of countries has brought some relief to the global markets, and indeed, some European leaders. The only exception? China, where Trump is ratcheting tariffs up even further.

So what might China do? Could they retaliate?
