Palestinian militants and the Israeli army exchanged deadly fire in the early hours of this morning, as fighting continued overnight.

The UN envoy for Middle East Peace has since warned that the two sides were heading “towards a full-scale war”.

It's also as Ireland's ambassador to Israel has reportedly been summoned by the Israeli foreign office after comments made by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney.
