Government departments will be forced to pay themselves if they fail to hit specific multi-year environmental targets.

This could mean that other services will be at risk if the climate crisis continues to be ignored.

It is part of a new multi-billion euro climate change action plan revealed today, that was presented by Minister for Communications Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton alongside Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the rest of the Cabinet.

Green Party leader Eamon Ryan told Ivan why the plan could go further, while environmental journalist John Gibbons shared his analysis.
