Under plans from the UK Home Office, criminals with minor convictions will be given a clean slate to stop them being denied jobs.

The rule where employers can know their prospective criminal pasts is going to be reviewed.

So should an employer know your criminal record?

Author and ex-inmate in Mountjoy Prison Gary Cunningham told Jonathan Healy why he'd like to see Ireland do similar, as he understands why companies are hesitant to hire ex-criminals at the moment.
