New regulations on the sale of alcohol, such as a ban on loyalty card points being awarded for purchases, as well as bans on short-term multi-buy deals, were today brought in.

The new guidelines are part of the Public Health Alcohol Bill  and are part of the government's attempts to cut down people's alcohol consumption.

Sheena Horgan CEO of Drinkaware and Columnist with the Irish independent and Irish daily star Ian O Doherty discuss if these new measures will reduce the amount of people drinking to excess.
