Now more than ever, the role of charitable organisations and philanthropy is vital in supporting those who are struggling.

All this week on Newstalk, we’re recognising Community Heroes with Bank of Ireland, who have donated €1 million in emergency funding via the Community Foundation for Ireland. 

Jackie Harrison, Head of Development at the  Community Foundation for Ireland, spoke to Ivan about their Covid Response Fund, set up in early March to give emergency grants to smaller organisations, while also lending support to the larger organisations like the Irish Cancer Society. 

Everything from meals on wheels to mental health charities has benefited.
