Business owners have hit out at the criminal gangs who are behind a recent spate of ATM thefts on both sides of the border.

Since December last year there has been fourteen cash machines robberies; the latest in Bushmills, Co Antrim in the early hours of this morning.

And each theft has been similar by natutre; a digger is stolen from a nearby building site or plant hire company and is then used to rip an ATM from the wall of a shop, supermarket or bank branch.

The thefts have left small business owners with repair bills of thousands of euro.
