UK to introduce 'Latte Levy' - Should Ireland follow suit?

The UK Government are planning to bring in new legislation to tackle plastic pollution. 

A “latte levy” on disposable coffee cups and charges for single use plastic cutlery and takeaway boxes are some of the measures that aim to clamp down on plastic waste. 

Ireland did a U-turn on the idea last year and decided against bringing in the levy.

Mindy O'Brien Co-ordinator of VOICE, the voice of Irish Concerned for the Environment, joins Newstalk Breakfast to discuss why she thinks Ireland needs to follow suit and introduce a 'Latte Levy'
