Some of the rules outlined in the Garda’s new uniform and dress policy - 

No visible neck or face tattoos  

No combination of hair dye and no unnatural colours 

Men must have short hair - above the ear, women have to have their hair tied up or tucked away under a hat.  

Only women are allowed to wear earrings – only one set of small studs.  

But, in a major change to the rules Gardai are now permitted to have beards – but they must grow them out while on annual leave or on rest days and there are specific instructions on the care of facial hair – including measurements.
