Warm weather over the weekend saw large crowds flock to the seaside for a swim. However, many entered the water at their own risk, as no lifeguards were on duty at several beaches.

Currently, the official lifeguard season operates on weekends throughout June and daily during July and August, which make up Ireland’s meteorological summer.

Following the rise in temperatures this week, calls are growing for the lifeguard season to be extended to include May.

Would you like to see a more permanent presence of lifeguards on Irish beaches?

Joining guest host Anna Daly to discuss is Water Safety Ireland's Deputy CEO, Roger Sweeeney, Ben Bennette from Bens Surf Clinic in Lahinch, Fine Fáil Cllr in Fingal County Council, Cathal Haughey and more.
