The influential fund manager Terry Smith recently accused Unilever of having lost its way.

In his letter to shareholders, he said that the company has become obsessed with its supposed ‘purpose’ of demonstrating its social & green credentials instead of actually trying to sell mayonnaise.

So what is the purpose of a modern company and have they become too concerned with virtue signaling?

Bobby was joined by Cormac Lucey who teaches finance at Trinity College and is also an economics columnist with the Sunday Times and Paul Hargreaves who is a businessman who has had a book published recently on purpose-driven business called ‘Forces for Good' to discuss.
