Sean Cavanagh was part of Off the Ball's commentary team for yesterday's Meath vs Armagh match. Before the game he discussed his own team's performance this year. You can listen to the interview via the podcast above.

"It's strange being up here on the seventh floor rather than being down in the changing rooms" he reflected. "It doesn't get any easier. It was an extremely poor year from Tyrone's point of view. We didn't get anywhere near our potential, we know we're a better team than what we showed in the Championship games we played this year."

"I don't think we had a settled team" he observed. "Us as players didn't know who was going to be coming in on any given day... that sometimes shatters confidence."

Sean says "I didn't feel it was my place" to speak about manager Mickey Harte's tactics that sometimes left the players feeling uncertain. "Mickey is his own man " he pointed out, and defended Harte's skills. "Mickey's a good reader of the game himself and a good reader of players' forms, but we always thought the guys would step up to the plate. It's easy from the public's point of view to point the finger at management, but the players themselves have to take a wee bit of onus."

"Both management and players need to take a look at themselves and decide where we're going from here - this year just wasn't good enough from Tyrone's point of view" Sean concluded.
