Hayley dies tonight. It’s been one of the most controversial storylines (not to mention the most drawn out)that Corrie has brought us. Hayley is going to end her life this evening and all this week we are going to see Roy dealing with her passing.

4. They’re trying out new comedy (again) on RTE 2 on Monday’s

Next Week’s News Monday RTE 2 9.30p.m

It’s RTE’s first weekly panel show in five years and the format looks like it is loosely based on Have I Got News for You. We first saw this as a New Year’s Special. Bernard O’Shea is the host and is joined by regulars PJ Gallagher and Neil Delamare with special guests every week for a satirical take on the news.

Trojan Donkey Monday 10p.m. RTE 2

PJ Gallagher, Jim Nugent and Sharon Mannion are pranking unwitting participants as they fool members of the public.

3. Room 101 Friday 8.30p.m. BBC1

The new series of the show where pet hates are sent to oblivion is back. Frank Skinner will ask various mouthpieces and celebrities to give their reasons to put their peeves to bed. Selfies and gardening are on the chopping block in the first episode.

2. Girls Monday 10p.m. 10.35p.m. Sky Atlantic

The highly anticipated third season is back on our screens. That is if you have the luxury of satellite TV. If you don’t, make friends with someone who has a subscription and make a night of it. The first two episodes come back with a bang and we catch up with the cast in the middle of their various crises. There is rehab, run-ins with exes, a road trip and domestic bliss to bring us up to speed with the Brooklyn hipsters and it is fantastic. The writing in this show is superb and if the first two episodes are anything to go by, we are in for a terrific season.

Watch out for some inspired cameos from Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Richard E.Grant:

1. Vikings RTE 2 Sunday 26th 9.30 p.m.

This was filmed in Wicklow in 2012. Michael Hirst, the man behind the Tudors brings us this big budget show about Vikings. It’s already aired on the History Channel as part of their first foray into serialised drama. Our very own Gabriel Byrne is in this. The show is inspired by the tales about the Viking Ragnar Lodbrok, one of the best-known Norse heroes and notorious as the scourge of France and England. It portrays Ragnar as a Viking farmer who pioneers the first daring raids into England with the support of fellow warriors, his brother Rollo, and his wife, the shieldmaiden Lagertha.
