The Irish Times, Irish Examiner and the Irish Independent all lead with the story of the death of four-year-old Ciaran Treacy, who was killed when a drunk driver crashed into the car he and his mother were travelling in.

Ciaran’s mother Gillian yesterday read a victim impact statement at Portlaoise Circuit Court, and her words are on the front page of each of the morning’s broadsheets.

The Examiner in particular goes with a striking presentation, with a stark black and white photo of the face of Ciaran below the headline: “Read this before you drink-drive”.

Other news on the front pages of the broadsheets is a report on Russian air strikes causing new waves of Syrian refugees (The Irish Times) and that an expert economic report has said proposals for rent controls “relatively weak” (The Irish Independent).

In the tabloids, the Star and the Sun also lead with the heartbreaking words of Gillian Treacy, while the Mail front page reads: “Babyface Hacker is a game obsessed loner” – the story of the Irish schoolboy who was behind a cyber-attack on UK communications company TalkTalk.

The Irish Daily Mirror has a story of a life saving rescue at the Dublin marathon, with nurse Ken Meleady performing CPR on a fellow runner, Mary Lynch, who collapsed during Monday’s race.

Inside the papers Chris was interested in a story in the Daily Telegraph - a 39 point checklist necessary to be the modern gentleman.

It led to Chris quizzing Ivan on his credentials on emoji use, facial hair grooming and mobile phone etiquette.
