A man shot in broad daylight in north inner-city Dublin yesterday has been named locally as 24-year-old Martin O'Rourke.

His family has appealed for privacy.

He was shot up to six times after midday at the junction of Sheriff and Oriel Street. He later died at the Mater Hospital.

It is believed that he was not the intended target, and that this latest attack may be linked to the Hutch/Kinahan feud.

Gardaí believe they have found the weapon used in the shooting.

They have renewed their appeal for witnesses to contact the incident room at Store Street garda station on 01-666-8000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1-800-666-111 or any garda station.

Social justice campaigner Fr Peter McVerry knew the victim.

He told Newstalk Breakfast he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Cathal McMahon is a journalist with Independent.ie. He told Newstalk Breakfast it is believed the man was wearing a similar jacket to the intended target.
