Austria has announced it is going to build a fence along its border with Slovenia to slow down the flow of refugees trying to enter the country.

The Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said the move was designed to ensure an orderly, controlled entry into the country.

But the government there says it is not shutting down the border with its EU neighbour.

Meanwhile, organisations working with refugees say there must be a robust integration plan for those coming to Ireland under the European resettlement programme.

Ireland has committed to accepting 4,000 people from Syria and other countries under the plan.

A government taskforce on refugees, led by the Department of Justice, meets this afternoon ahead of the arrival of the first people from Syria in around a month's time.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland says access to education, training and accommodation must be prioritised.

Spokesperson Jerry O'Connor says family reunification also needs to be streamlined.

"A key feature actually of this crisis has been that families are torn apart" he told Newstalk Breakfast

"To reunite them - and Frances Fitzgerald in fairness to her again has been making the right noises on this - but our experience has been that family unification, for people who are already here, is a very cumbersome and very slow process".

"So that will need to be streamlined" he added.

And the Minister for State with responsibility for New Communities, Aodhan O'Riordan, says it is likely that Ireland will take in more refugees from Syria.

He says allowing refugee families to stay together will be discussed at today's meeting.
