A 4.8 magnitude earthquake is reported to have struck Philippines.

The US Geological survey said the quake struck the San Isidro area.

It comes just days after a devastating typhoon which is estimated to have claimed the lives of up to 10-thousand people.

Aid agencies have launched a joint emergency appeal to get food, water and shelter to victims of the devastating Philippines typhoon.

Newstalk's Breakfast spoke to Gareth Crawford, regional Director for Plan International:The United Nations is to launch an urgent aid appeal to help the Philippines recover from the ravages of Typhoon Haiyan.

The relief operation has so far been focused on the city of Tacloban.

Earlier, the UN World Food Program (WFP) released this footage of their assessment of the area:

The UN said 660,000 people have lost their homes while a further 10 million could be affected after the typhoon, said to be the strongest ever to make landfall, hit the southeast Asian nation.

The United Nations' OCHA gave an update on their efforts on Monday:

Meanwhile, the Church of Ireland is responding through the Bishops’ Appeal emergency fund with 10,000 euro's sanctioned to Christian Aid partners.

The organisers behind the Twist soup kitchens -which provides free food to those in need across Galway, Loughrea, Athlone, Sligo, Roscommon and Tuam are hoping to gather supplies to send to the Philippines.

But, Oliver Williams from Twist says he needs some help with shipping items to the country,

"Well basically watching the news, its devastating whats going on out there. There are people dying of the hunger and up to fifteen to twenty thousand dead and I'm just trying to put together a container. I'm looking for a shipping company to provide me with a container and I'm asking the public and particularly the food producers to come on board and supply us with non-perishable foods so we can fill this container and get it out to those people who need it."

A book of condolences will open in Dublin's Mansion House today for the victims of last week's super storm.

Members of the public are invited to sign the book from noon today - from tomorrow the book will be open from 10am to 4pm until Friday.

Mark Condong is the Philippine Honorary Consul in Dublin:
