The Chief Executive of IAG is before the Dail's Transport Committee today to discuss his company's plans to buy Aer Lingus.

The International Airlines Group boss is spending two days in Dublin trying to convince the government to accept the offer for the State's 25% of the former national flag carrier.

Willie Walsh held a meeting with the Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe yesterday to outline his plans. He said he had no intentions of walking away from the offer just yet.

This morning, Ivan and Chris discussed IAG's plans for the company as Walsh came out blazing in the morning papers.

"I think it's absolutely bizarre that the Transport Oireachtas Committee looking to come to the best conclusion didn't even see fit to invite Willie Walsh. What a joke."

Ivan went on to state that the issue is interested in votes and the commercial future of Aer Lingus: "What assurances is he giving about slots into Cork and Shannon? What assurances is he giving about jobs?"

Willie Walsh has moved to assure that the current slots will be improved on and has provided guarantees on the issue. The Heathrow slots will be dedicated to Irish/UK route for at least five years.

Ivan went on to say that he expected leadership from the government on the issue: "I expect them to chart a course that's in the best interest of aviation in and out of the country, best commercial logic for the company and best interests of tourism. And a good deal for the consumer.

"I've yet to hear how simply dismissing IAG for short term political reasons actually achieves anything."
