Dublin's latest gangland shooting victim remains in a critical condition in hospital this morning.

The man - named locally as 38-year-old Christopher Maguire - was sitting in a car outside his home in the Dun Emer housing estate in Lusk when he was shot five times yesterday morning.

The victim is said to have been able to call 999 despite receiving serious injuries in the incident.

He is being treated at Beaumont Hospital.

Cathal McMahon, reporter with Independent.ie, says Mr Maguire is known to gardaí.

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast, Mr McMahon said: "This man wasn't directly involved in the [Kinahan-Hutch] feud - however he was associated with a number of people who were involved in this very blood feud which has already claimed eight lives since September of last year. Gardaí are obviously examining this aspect as part of their investigation.

"They are also looking at this man's involvement in alleged dissident and INLA activity," he added.

Gardaí are appealing for information on two cars - one that was found at the scene and another thought to be the getaway car, which was burnt out nearby.

A Volkswagon Golf, which was seen leaving the area, was discovered burnt out at Kilhedge Lane in Lusk a short time after the shooting.

Anybody with information is being asked to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01-802-0510, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800-666-111, or any Garda station.
