The Irish Farmers Association (IFA) says a pork survey which found non-Irish products being sold as Irish shows the misleading of consumers remains a serious issue.

The organisation tested 91 products in December and found 29% had DNA that was not from the Irish database.

Of the 26 products that were not Irish, 40% were loin chops and 44% were back rashers.

Similar previous tests revealed that over 50% of the products sampled were not assigned to the Irish boar database.

Researchers went to independent butchers and supermarkets in Wexford, Galway, Cork and Cavan for the study.

The IFA National Pigs and Pig meat Committee says it is now meeting with the butchers in an effort to increase transparency.

Committee chairman, Pat O'Flaherty, told Newstalk Breakfast it should be a legal requirement for all pork products - including processed meats - to display the country of origin.
