The Government Press Office has released a statement following calls from opposition TDs for the Dail to sit next week.

The statement confirmed that the Dail will resume business on Tuesday June 9th as scheduled.

The Chief Whip will then consult with his counter-parts in the Opposition on issues of concern, and ways for such issues to be debated in the House.

Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin had been seeking an early recall of the Dáil to discuss the issue of Dáil privilege and public interest.

It follows new claims about businessman Denis O'Brien's banking arrangements with IBRC.

The claims were made under Dáil privilege yesterday by Independent TD Catherine Murphy, but cannot be reported because the matter is the subject of a High Court injunction.

Mary-Lou McDonald called for the Taoiseach to recall the Dail to discuss Constitutional questions about Dail privilege – and to establish a proper investigation of the Siteserv deal and other transactions involving the IBRC and Denis O'Brien.

The Sinn Fein Deputy leader said Enda Kenny must act fast.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin said the use and reporting of things said under Dáil privilege is of significant public concern.

But James Morrisey, a spokesman for Mr O'Brien, says the businessman has every right to defend himself.

Catherine Murphy says she did not seek legal advice before making her statement yesterday.

The Independent TD says that although she was aware of the High Court injunction, she felt an 'obligation' to put the information into the public domain.

She wants the review into IBRC to be scrapped and a new one started.
