19,000 homes and business are without power this morning after new faults developed on power networks last night.

Problems developed in three areas, Kilmore Quay, Wexford; Cappamore, Limerick and Tralee Co. Kerry.

ESB Networks says it hopes to clear those faults this morning.

The power company has admitted some people in outlying areas will be without power until the end of the week, after major storms last week. 3,000 staff are working to rectify the power outages.

In total, some 260,00 homes and businesses were left without power last week, 12% of all ESB customers - the company says less than 1% are now disconnected.

Paul Mulvaney, customer service manager with ESB Networks, spoke to Newstalk's Breakfast earlier:

Safety concerns

Meanwhile, the ESB is warning parents to keep an eye on children playing outdoors this week.

The electricity company is concerned that fallen power lines could pose a risk to public safety - especially during the mid-term break.

If you do see power lines on the ground the message is to stay well back and to call the ESB.
