Liverpool football club's chief executive has dedicated the team's Premier League victory to Seán Cox.

Chelsea's victory over Manchester City last night saw the Merseysiders win the League for the first time since 1990.

As the result of last night's match became clear, Liverpool CEO Peter Moore took to social media with a tribute for Seán Cox.

The father of three from Dunboyne in Co Meath was attacked outside the stadium in April 2018, ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final against AS Roma.

Speaking to OTB Sports, Seán Cox's family said: "Sean couldn’t be happier for Liverpool being crowned champions and sends his love and congratulations to Jurgen Klopp and the entire club.

"The Cox family are so delighted that Sean got the opportunity to go to Anfield on a couple of occasions earlier this season and meet many of his LFC sporting heroes. Liverpool FC is a huge part of Sean’s life and he hopes to be back in Anfield before long."

In an earlier tweet, Peter Moore wrote: "Number 19 is finally here. It’s for our millions of fans, near and far...we miss you.

"It’s for the Reds that fell to the virus. It’s for my dad, who first took me to Anfield in 1959.

"It’s for Sean Cox, smiling in Ireland right now. And it’s for the 96, who will never be forgotten."

More than 37,000 people have liked each of Mr Moore's tweets referencing Seán.

Seán has spent the past two years undergoing intensive rehabilitation and therapy, with that set to continue for the 'foreseesable future'.

Earlier this year, the Cox family was reunited under one roof for the first time in almost two years.

Seán made an emotional return to Anfield last year, while Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has previously said the attack on the Irish man was "the lowest point" of his time at the club.
