The Women's Mini Marathon has overturned its decision to ban a blind woman from the event because of her running guide.

Sinead Kane, who has just 5% vision, was initially told she could not run with 40,000 others on June 1st because her guide John O'Regan is a man.

This is despite the fact that he is not competing.

The Sports Council originally offered to put a call out on social media for a female running guide, which Sinead says she found insulting.

But this morning, the Mini Marathon reversed its decision, saying it has reviewed its policy and will allow male assistants a special permit to guide visually impaired or wheelchair entrants.

Sinead was shocked at the turnaround.

Her running guide John O'Regan, who has competed all over the world, says he is still shocked they were turned down at all.
