A woman in Hutchinson, Kansas, is charged with arson after police say she set her home on fire during an attempt to kill a spider, the Hutchinson News reports.

34-year-old Ginny Griffith reportedly lit her duplex in Kansas on fire trying to kill a spider.

The police report explains how Griffith used a cigarette lighter to set some towels alight in an attempt to do away with the bug.

Firefighters say there were multiple points of origin for the fire but fortunately no one was hurt.

Griffith has been charged with aggravated arson and hopefully next time she’ll just use a shoe or even better a glass and a piece of cardboard.

And if you’re still unsure whether fire is an effective pest control method, spare a thought for the woman from Texas who, last year, burned her house down while trying to light a snake on fire with petrol. Oh, and the Californian woman who set her house ablaze trying to clear spider-webs with a blowtorch back in 2012.
