A woman has been seriously injured in a crash in Co Cavan.

The crash between a car and a lorry happened on the R179 just outside the village of Kingscourt at around 5:45pm this evening.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 60s, was injured.

She was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where her condition is believed to be serious.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Garda forensic collision investigators are set to examine the crash site and vehicles involved.

Local diversions remain in place.
