A woman has died after being hit by a car in north county Dublin this afternoon. It happened at around 12:30pm on the Dublin Road in Balbriggan.

The female pedestrian who was aged in her 30s was was killed when a car mounted the footpath.

A child who was with her was also injured and taken to Temple Street Hospital. Meanwhile the driver of the car was brought to to Beaumont Hospital in the city with non life-threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed pending a garda forensic collision investigation. Local diversions are also in place.
