Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was killed in a road accident in County Mayo.

The 49-year-old woman was fatally injured when she was struck by a car on the N60, Castlebar-Claremorris Road, near Breaffy Village at around 3am this morning.

She was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where she was later pronounced dead.

Anyone who was travelling on the N60 near Breaffy Village between 2.45am and 3am, or who may have witnessed the crash, is asked to contact Castlebar Garda Station.
