A 43-year-old woman is due to appear in court later this morning, charged in connection with the death of two year old Hassan Khan.
The toddler was found with stab wounds in his Dublin home on Thursday.
The woman was charged late last night, after her period of detention was extended twice by detectives in Dun Laoghaire Garda Station.
She is expected to appear before Dublin District Court at 10.30 this morning.
She was arrested on Thursday, after the body of two year old Hassan Khan was discovered by gardaí at an apartment at Ridge Hall in Ballybrack.
A post mortem has been carried out, the details of which have not yet been revealed, but it's is understood he suffered stab wounds.
The level of state supports for the family is now likely to be investigated as the toddler was the subject of a Child Rescue Ireland alert just two months ago.
It was cancelled within an hour when he was found with his father, but it's unclear what level of follow-up supports were provided or considered after Hassan was returned.
The CEO of child and family agency Tusla, Gordon Jeyes, said it will work with any investigating body to cast light on the little boy's death.
