Artist James Chapman, known online for his cute and funny look at how language makes subtle and glaring changes to the media we consume and the sounds we hear, has created a new collection – Game of Thrones characters when auto corrected. And the result is charming.

Chapman, who is writing his PhD in physics, previously translated the names of TV shows as seen in different regions around the world, saw that his phone’s autocorrect text engine kept righting the perceived wrongs in George RR Martin’s creations whenever he messaged friends about Game of Thrones. A familiar sight to anyone with a distinctly Irish name as well, the variations came thick and fast, and soon Chapman was compiling an “insane” list of his favourites.

“It wasn’t a shining endorsement for the phone, but it certainly gave me something fun to draw,” Chapman said.

While it might well seem a bit simplistic to be celebrating a phone changing Hodor to hooray, credit has to be given to Chapman’s genius interpretation of the list, which is clever, fun, and disarmingly charming to even the most cynical Newstalk reader – and offer some much needed comic relief in the wake of the show's dour and deadly fifth season.
