The creator of the original House of Cards says the US adaptation has been the 'happiest professional experience' of his life.
Michael Dobbs is a British Conservative peer, and wrote the novels the original BBC House of Cards TV series was based on. He now serves as executive producer on the Netflix version.
"We're busily preparing series five right now, and as long as it goes on being successful and we are happy... Why stop when you're having such great fun?" he told Jonathan Healy on Newstalk Lunchtime.
The BBC series and its two direct sequels - all of which followed protagonist Francis Urquhart - ran for a total of 12 episodes. There has already been 52 episodes of the US version.
Michael explained: "The great thing Francis Urquhart is we know what happened to him in the end. None of us know - not even the writers know - what's going to happen to Frank Underwood in the end. We're making it up as we go along - which is a great political tradition, isn't it?"
Michael appeared on the show ahead of tomorrow's referendum on Britain's membership of the EU. He is campaigning for a Brexit.
"This isn't about who becomes prime minister, because frankly prime ministers come and go," he argued. "This is about the future of my country and the future of Europe as a whole for the next 40, 50 years.
"The way that we govern ourselves will be with us for decades to come. It is the most historic vote that we have ever had in this country, and I hope people will treat it far more seriously then 'I don't like [Boris Johnson's] haircut' and that 'David Cameron has been around too long'," he added.
