Today

Rain, heavy or thundery in places at first, will clear northeastwards this morning and gales on southern and some eastern coasts will ease.

Colder, brighter conditions with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers will follow in strong and blustery west to northwest winds.

Cold with afternoon temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees, coldest in the north and northwest where some of the showers will be wintry on high ground.

There are two Status Yellow weather warnings in place, but due to expire by 9 O'clock this morning.

SW winds will strengthen again this evening and overnight and will later veer NW. Mean speeds 50 to 65 km/hr with gusts to around 90 km/hr are expected, winds will be strongest in exposed coastal fringes.

Tonight

Cold early tonight with showers becoming confined to western and northern areas, some possibly wintry on higher ground of the north.

A sharp frost will develop as temperatures fall to between 0 and 2 degrees in many areas, but about 4 or 5 degrees in some southwestern and western coastal areas, but frost clearing from many areas overnight as southwesterly winds strengthen.
