Well, winter is most certainly here and it would like to make itself known this weekend.

Met Éireann have issued a rainfall weather warning for the next two days for Southern and Western coastal counties. They are reporting that some intense rainfall will occur at times from Friday through to Sunday night.

Southern and western counties, especially the coastal and mountainous areas, will get intense rainfall at times over short periods.

Overall rainfall through the period could range from 60 to 90mm in these southern and western coastal counties.

The warning is valid from Friday 17 October 2014 12:00 to Sunday 19 October 2014 23:59.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Gonzalo – a category four storm reaching sustained speeds of 225kph – may hit Bermuda within 24 hours.

Gonzalo will then sweep across the Atlantic, towards Ireland, according to satellite images on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website.

The storm would no longer be classified as a hurricane if it did hit Ireland, but would still likely bring severe conditions and would be classified as an ex-tropical storm. Winds would be somewhere between 62kph and 117kph.

Sky news weather producer Rebecca Yussuf said: "This storm is expected to weaken to an ex-tropical storm as it tracks north then east across the ocean over the weekend and early next week.

"There is a large amount of uncertainty with regard to the track of this storm, but some models do suggest it could affect the UK and Ireland on Tuesday.

"We are monitoring the situation and advise the public to do the same.

"If the storm does head towards the UK and Ireland, some places could see severe gales and heavy rain, but at this stage extreme weather looks unlikely."
