This month signals the fourth anniversary of the Syrian war.
Due to the extreme violence that has ensued, it has been impossible for the UN or NGO's to properly account for the death toll, but estimates are around 300,000 dead so far.
In recent months, the focus has shifted from the atrocities inflicted by the Syrian regime, to those inflicted by the so-called Islamic state.
Shona Murray is on the Syrian border with Lebanon and has been speaking to those who are fleeing.
This afternoon, she spoke to Jonathan Healy on Lunchtime about what she has witnessed.
The mother of five children told her: "We used to walk between just heads, decapitated heads on the street. They used to put them on sticks. They were our relatives, our cousins, army. We are all relatives.
"They put horror inside of our hearts, we fear them."
