Iarnród Éireann have reduced costs by €73 million per annum since the onset of the economic crisis.

As part of this process they are reviewing facilities across stations, this has resulted in the decision to close the public toilets in a number of stations.

Jane Creegan,  Events and PR Manager with Iarnród Eireann, spoke to Jonathan Healy on Lunchtime today about the issue.

She told Jonathan: "Our financial situation is well known, it's quite difficult and we're looking for ways to save money in any way that we can.

"The reason that we have chosen to close these particular toilets would be on busy commuter routes.

"We took the decision to close toilets at those particular stations because usage was low so that's really part of the reason why we did it."
