Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has met with Donald Trump to reportedly discuss a potential cabinet position.
Mr Romney, who lost out to Barack Obama in 2012, is allegedly being considered for the role of Secretary of State.
Speaking as he left Mr Trump's golf course in New Jersey, he refused to divulge details of their conversation.
"We had a far reaching conversation with regards to the various theatres of the world where there are interest of the United States ... And we exchanged our views on those topics," he said.
The pair were markedly cordial entering discussions, with Mr Romney warmly shaking hands with Mr Trump. The two exchanged pleasantries, with Mr Trump placing his hand on Mr Romney’s back, before disappearing behind a large brown door with Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
The two have previously disagreed on US relations with Russia. Mr Romney called Russia America’s “number one geopolitical foe.”
According to the Kremlin, Mr Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on Monday. In a statement, Trump's office said Putin was looking forward to “having a strong and enduring relationship with Russia and the People of Russia."
In June, Mr Romney told CNN that a Trump presidency could bring “trickle-down racism, trickle-down bigotry, trickle-down misogyny” to the nation. In a speech, Mr Romney called the real estate mogul a “con man” and a “fake.”
Mr Trump said Mr Romney “blew it” and “choked like a dog” in his failed bid to unseat President Obama in 2012, and he called the former Massachusetts governor “one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics.”
