Waterford is to get a €10m facelift to make it more 'people centred' and to create world class public spaces.

Public transport will be centred on Arundel Square and the Apple Market will get a shiny steel and glass cover to transform it into an indoor market a night-time venue.

A number of small plazas will be created in St Francis Place, Lady Lane, and John St. Colbeck St and John St also.

The project in the country's oldest city will take three years to complete.

The major urban renewal has been described as a 'game changer' and work is expected to begin shortly.
