TD's and Senators in Waterford have told workers and union reps at Bausch and Lomb that they'll hold senior level talks with management at the company in an effort to save jobs.
The contact lens manufacturer employs almost 1,200 people, and is now seeking 200 voluntary redundancies with a 20 per cent pay cut set to be imposed on the remaining staff.
If an agreement can't be reached between staff and management before the June 17th deadline, there are fears the company may pull out of Waterford entirely.
