For the most die-hard of Woody Allen fans the recent allegations made by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow proved arguably less shocking than his decision to transition to television, having signed a deal with Amazon to produce an original show for their streaming service. Just what that show was going to be was kept tightly under wraps, beyond the fact that Miley Cyrus would be co-starring. But now Amazon has finally released the title, the start date, and a trailer for the show.

As revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles yesterday, the six-episode show will be called Crisis in Six Scenes, and will come to Amazon’s Prime service on September 30th. No complete episodes were shown to the gathered critics, but Amazon did pass around a fact sheet to those in attendance, along with two scenes, including the one embedded below.

As per the show’s official synopsis, Crisis in Six Scenes is a comedy that takes place in the 1960s during turbulent times in the United States. The show will see a middle-class suburban family playing host to a guest who turns the household completely upside down. The cast includes Woody Allen, Miley Cyrus, Elaine May, Michael Rapaport, David Harbour, and Joy Behar.

In the first clip, seen below, Allen’s character, the novelist Sidney Munsinger, wants his regular barber to give him a James Dean crew cut, while in the second Munsinger and Miley Cyrus’s character argue about expensive kitchen appliances in a world where people are starving to death.

With just one season planned, the story consists of just six half-hour episodes, meaning Allen’s move to TV is not permanent. While Amazon’s video content is currently not available to Irish audiences, it is expected it will be made available in the coming months, ahead of the launch of The Grand Tour, the new motoring show from the former Top Gear presenting trio.
