A Japanese company wants to create an artificial meteor shower display for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
ALE are a start up, based in Japan, who are currently developing ambitious technology to launch man-made meteors from satellites in space.
The company is hoping to finish the development by 2018, just in time for it to be used it for the firework display at the 2020 Olympic opening ceremony.
Natural meteor showers occur when a comet comes close to the sun and produces debris which is then hurled toward the Earth.
ALE are proposing to mimic this by launching small satellites into orbit which will release a large quantity of small particles towards earth. On impact with the atmosphere, these particles should ignite and generate a meteor shower.
The project is called SkyCanvas and the company have even released a promotional concept video.
