While most of us need at least half a minute to figure out how to actually twist the sides of a Rubik’s Cube, teenager Collin Burns just broke the world record for solving the puzzle in 5.25 seconds.

It was during the final round of an organised Rubik’s Cube competition last weekend at Central Bucks West High School in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, that Burns lived up to his name, twisting the 3x3x3 cube in the fastest time ever recorded. The previous record, set by Mats Valk in 2013, was a leisurely 5.55 seconds.

While the record books have yet to be updated, the event at which it took place was officially hosted by the World Cube Association.

Although the official record has not yet been updated, Saturday's competition was an official one held by the World Cube Association.

A WCA representative told Mashable that Burns officially broke the record: "Although this result has not been uploaded to the WCA database just yet, we can confirm that this is (or will be soon) the new official WCA world record for the 3x3x3 single solve category. To our best knowledge, it has been performed in an official competition, with all the rules being followed, even the scramble has been checked for its correctness."
