After receiving an Oscar nomination earlier this year for the award-winning film Room, Irish director Lenny Abrahamson first project since is coming together, shifting focus from the silver screen to the small one. With Chance, Abrahamson is taking on a psychological thriller with Hugh Laurie in the lead role, and the first trailer has just been released.
Based on Kem Nunn’s novel of the same name, recent Emmy-nominee Laurie plays Dr Eldon Chance, a neuropsychologist in San Francisco who crosses professional boundaries when he gets involved with one of his patients. While looking for a solution, Chance’s desperation leads to some dark places that affect his relationships with his estranged wife and distant teenage daughter.
Veteran TV-star Laurie’s work in Chance comes after the back-to-back critically-praised turns in Veep and the BBC’s The Night Manager, for which he is nominated for the ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie’ at the 2016 Emmys. The nomination is Laurie’s eighth, having never won despite seven nominations for his work on House.
Chance is an original series created for the US digital network Hulu, meaning it will not be immediately available to Irish audiences. With a second season already confirmed, the 10-episode first season debuts on October 19th, and you can watch the trailer in full below:
