A clown has reportedly been stalking the streets of a Scottish village, and has dared police to find him.

The person, wearing a clown outfit and holding a balloon, is seen posing around darkened streets on social media.

In a rhyming video, the clown says: "Well, well, well, I've made the news again.

"Should I smile for the cameras with my 'hideous' grin?"

The Facebook profile says the character 'studied at Clown School' and lives in the village of Skelmorlie - but is originally from Hell, Michigan.

Sky News reporter Jenness Mitchell told Moncrieff she is unsure there's anything sinister behind it.

"My story has come off the back of other news reports; they've spoken to people saying apparently this Skelmorlie clown has been terrorising villagers," she said.

"In response to that this clown has uploaded a video and a message to the media and to the police.

"To me it's a bit of tongue-in-cheek, there's nothing sinister behind it, not that I'm seeing.

"I contacted the police and they just got back to me today, saying that they've got no reports about this clown.

"So obviously these other news reports saying they're terrified, it doesn't seem like they've gone to the police.

"From other comments that's been online, there seems to be a lot of people liking the appearance of this clown who seems to have appeared in the village back in 2021."

'Little red packages'

Jenness said things have changed in the last 24 hours.

"People have been waking up and there's been I think 10 packages around the village, little red packages, to join in this game," she said.

"It seems to be getting people involved.

"The comments on that online, everybody just seems to be enjoying it and wondering who this person is," she added.
