Google have released their review of 2015 – 2015 A Year in Search - and among the biggest stories from around the world – and even beyond planet earth – a moment in Dublin has been included.

The video runs through the most frequently searched topics and questions of the last 12 months, and marriage equality in Ireland and abroad has its place in the mix, with a kiss between Senator Katherine Zappone and her partner Ann-Louise Gilligan, at Dublin Castle on May 19, as the Marriage Equality Bill was passed. It follows on from Facebook's year in Review 2015 video - which also saw an Irish story take its place among the world's biggest headlines of the year.

Among the other stories that get mention as the most prominent of Google’s year are Nasa finding water on mars, the refugee crisis, and the Paris terror attacks.

Google has also released the info on what were each country’s most searched terms in 2015.

In Ireland our most searched news story was the Rugby World Cup, followed by the case of Karen Buckley – the young Irish nurse who was murdered in Scotland.

In music Ed Sheeran was the unsurprising number one, with Adele number two adn the Eagles of Death Metal – whose concert was attacked during the Paris terror attacks – at number three.

Conor McGregor was the most searched for sportsperson, with Jonah Lomu in second place and Ronda Rousey coming in third.

Former Taoiseach Charlie Haughey was the most searched politician in Ireland, with Leo Varadakr in second place just ahead of Donald Trump.

The most searched for TV shows were the Eurovision and Operation Transformation.

In terms of questions asked by Irish users in 2015 – some of the most popular were: 'What is ISIS?' 'When is Easter 2015?' and 'What is Je Suis Charlie?'
