In a world where finding a potential husband or wife seems to depend entirely on your wifi connection, the act of making a connection and arranging a date without a mobile device seems increasingly hard. Swiping right on Tinder has replaced the act of building up the courage to take the brave and bold steps towards a stranger who’s caught your eye and making some awkward conversation that might, if you’re look, seem charming.
Now a British filmmaker, BAFTA-nominee Samuel Abrahams, has produced a new short that documents the tricky side of making a date outside the realm of the digital demesne, Offline Dating. Challenging his recently-single pal Tom Greaves to, as politely as possible, meet, chat up, charm, and make a date with a woman on the streets of London.
Easier said than done.
Rejection, refusal, disinterest, incredulity, and a fairly territorial male all seem to get in the way of making a connection, though Greaves proves himself a willing foil as he perseveres. To find out whether he’ll make a date offline, check out the short below:
